What to Expect on Treatment Day

Consultation & Strand Test

We assess your hair's health, porosity, and previous chemical history. For Japanese straightening, we do a strand test before committing. Honest about what your hair can handle.

Clarifying Shampoo

We deep-cleanse your hair with a clarifying shampoo to remove product buildup and open the cuticle for maximum keratin absorption.

Treatment Application

The treatment is applied section by section, then left to penetrate. Time varies by treatment and hair thickness.

Blow Dry & Flat Iron

We dry and flat iron at precise temperatures to seal the keratin into the hair cuticle. This is where the smoothing magic happens.

Keratin Questions Answered

For most treatments, we recommend doing color first, then keratin — at least 2 weeks apart or on the same day (color first). Brazilian Blowout is color-safe immediately. For Cezanne and traditional keratin, we generally recommend waiting until the treatment has fully settled. We'll advise specifically based on your situation at consultation.

Use sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner — sulfates strip keratin faster. Avoid ocean swimming or rinse thoroughly after salt water exposure. Sodium chloride (salt) in hair products also shortens treatment life, so check ingredient lists. We'll recommend a post-treatment care kit that extends your results as long as possible.

Japanese straightening (thermal reconditioning) permanently alters the hair's structure and is only recommended for hair in good condition. We always perform a strand test and will honestly advise against it if your hair is too damaged, previously bleached, or otherwise not a candidate. When done correctly on healthy hair, it's extremely effective and long-lasting.
